How To Extend The Life Of Your Dental Cleaning

Dentist Blog

Everyone should have regular dental cleanings to keep their teeth clean, healthy, and free of decay and gum disease. When you get your teeth cleaned by a dental hygienist, there are fewer things that feel as great afterward. Your teeth will feel sparkling clean, and your gums will feel rejuvenated. You may want to know if there are ways to help extend the feeling of a cleaning. Here are some things you can do to help keep your teeth feeling great for as long as possible after a cleaning:

Clean Your Teeth Well Between Cleanings

You need to thoroughly clean your teeth every day to get the most out of your dental cleaning. You need to do more than just brush for a few minutes. You should pay attention to your brushing technique and focus on brushing each tooth individually. Also, make sure you are stimulating your gums by gently brushing near the gumline. Try not to overbrush, as this can cause your gums to recede. You should also floss each time you brush to reduce plaque and prevent bacteria that can result in cavities.

Eat a Healthy Diet

There are certain foods and beverages you can enjoy that not only keep your body healthy but also can help keep your teeth clean. These foods and beverages act as natural cleaning agents for your teeth. Crunchy vegetables and fruits such as apples, celery, and carrots are great to help keep your teeth clean since they increase the production of saliva in your mouth. Saliva keeps your mouth and teeth clean. Other foods rich in calcium are also great for your teeth and can help them feel really clean. This includes milk, broccoli, spinach, yogurt, and cheese. These foods help keep your teeth strong. Protein like meat, eggs, and nuts are also great because it helps your body better use the calcium you eat. You can also chew sugarless gum occasionally to help keep your saliva production up.

Do Not Ignore Issues

If you notice you have some type of dental issue between cleanings, get to the dentist right away. Oral problems can significantly interfere with the freshness you feel after a cleaning. Some issues you may encounter include dry mouth, damaged fillings, or a damaged tooth. Get these issues handled as soon as you can to keep your teeth fresh and healthy.

Regular cleanings are great to get your teeth feeling great and address any concerns you have about your teeth.

Mouth Rinses Are Not Just for Bad Breath

I have always brushed and flossed my teeth daily, but I still had the occasional cavity when I visited the dentist for a check-up. He told me it was normal to have a cavity on occasion and that I shouldn't let it stress me out too much. Well, I am not one to just accept any problem I am having, so I started looking into how to improve my oral hygiene even more. I had always thought mouthwash was just to improve your breath, but I found some that said they helped keep cavities away. I started using one every day before bed. I haven't had a cavity in two years now, and I think the mouth rinse is the reason! I created this blog to remind other people that even if they brush and floss regularly, they can always find ways to take even better care of their teeth.
