Why Are Dental Crowns Beneficial?

Dentist Blog

If you have a problem tooth, your dentist may advise you to repair it. Part of the repair may contain a dental crown. If you have never had a crown before, you should know why it may be the best option for tooth restoration. Dental crowns have a variety of benefits you need to know about. The following are some of the benefits of getting a dental crown:

Dental Crowns Provide Protection

A dental crown helps to protect the tooth beneath it. A dentist will save as much of the natural tooth as possible before placing the crown. You need to have as much natural tooth material as possible for the health of your mouth. In most cases, what is left of a natural tooth after the dentist removes the damaged portion is not strong enough to remain unprotected. The dental crown sits on top of the tooth not only to protect it but also to help decrease the need for a tooth extraction later. The crown absorbs any impact and force from daily use.

Dental Crowns Restore the Function of a Tooth

When a natural tooth is decayed or broken, you are not likely to use it as you once did. A dental crown essentially replaces your tooth so you can use it. The crown is placed over the whole tooth. Once the crown is permanently placed, you can use the tooth to chew just like your natural teeth.

Dental Crowns Can Act as a Tooth Replacement

If you have a tooth that is missing completely, you can use a dental crown and a bridge to replace the tooth without getting an implant. The dentist can crown the teeth on either side of the missing tooth attached to a bridge with a false tooth. The false tooth can fill in the empty space easily and with good results.

Dental Crowns Improve Your Smile

Missing or broken teeth can impact your smile. If you crown the damaged or missing teeth, your smile will be greatly improved. Your dentist can crown teeth that are in poor condition if the natural teeth are repaired first. You cannot crown damaged teeth that still have exposed decay. Once the teeth are crowned, your smile will be greatly enhanced.

Dental crowns can give you more confidence in your appearance. If you think dental crowns can help your missing or damaged teeth, make an appointment with your dentist to discuss your options.

Mouth Rinses Are Not Just for Bad Breath

I have always brushed and flossed my teeth daily, but I still had the occasional cavity when I visited the dentist for a check-up. He told me it was normal to have a cavity on occasion and that I shouldn't let it stress me out too much. Well, I am not one to just accept any problem I am having, so I started looking into how to improve my oral hygiene even more. I had always thought mouthwash was just to improve your breath, but I found some that said they helped keep cavities away. I started using one every day before bed. I haven't had a cavity in two years now, and I think the mouth rinse is the reason! I created this blog to remind other people that even if they brush and floss regularly, they can always find ways to take even better care of their teeth.
