Should You Use Invisalign Or Braces?

Dentist Blog

Many people with misaligned teeth go to their dentist looking for a solution. However, they are often presented with multiple options to pick from. Two common ways to fix teeth that are crooked is to use Invisalign or traditional braces. Here is what you should know about both of these procedures so you can pick the one that works best for you.

Invisalign

The biggest benefit of picking Invisalign is that the treatment uses clear alignment trays that slip onto your teeth and are hardly noticeable to anyone. This is especially appealing to adults since nobody else will be able to tell that you are taking steps to correct the placement of your teeth. If you were self-conscious about wearing traditional braces because of how they look, know that Invisalign can be the solution to your problem.

Invisalign also makes eating and oral care much easier since the trays are removable. You can take the plastic trays out for about 2 hours each day, which gives you plenty of time to brush your teeth and eat three meals a day without having to wear the trays. In fact, you must remove the trays for eating and brushing in order to avoid damaging the trays. You should only sip water when wearing Invisalign trays because colored beverages can stain the plastic and cause them to not be as invisible as they can be.

Traditional Braces

Traditional braces require the use of those metal brackets that are attached directly to your teeth. While you may think that this is not a viable option after learning about Invisalign, it may be the better choice for a few reasons.

While you can see the metal brackets on your teeth, those brackets actually help the corrective procedure work much better than Invisalign. Traditional braces are known to make more extreme corrections to your teeth than other forms of braces. For example, if you have an issue with shark teeth where a tooth is growing directly behind another, traditional braces are going to be able to fix that problem much better.

Traditional braces can also get the job done faster than Invisalign. If your goal is to spend as little time as possible to get your teeth into the right position, know that the brackets and wires can put more force on your teeth and help get them into the correct place over a shorter period of time.

Mouth Rinses Are Not Just for Bad Breath

I have always brushed and flossed my teeth daily, but I still had the occasional cavity when I visited the dentist for a check-up. He told me it was normal to have a cavity on occasion and that I shouldn't let it stress me out too much. Well, I am not one to just accept any problem I am having, so I started looking into how to improve my oral hygiene even more. I had always thought mouthwash was just to improve your breath, but I found some that said they helped keep cavities away. I started using one every day before bed. I haven't had a cavity in two years now, and I think the mouth rinse is the reason! I created this blog to remind other people that even if they brush and floss regularly, they can always find ways to take even better care of their teeth.
