Bad breath is the result of a lot of things, but the main cause is leftover food and bacteria in a person's mouth.

Flossing cleans the areas thoroughly, though, and this can make a huge difference with the way your breath smells.

The other important reason you should floss is to keep your gums healthy. Flossing can help you prevent gum disease as it is one of the only good ways to clean the gum lines in your mouth. Gum disease is something you do not want to get, and it is not really even that hard to prevent. It does require good brushing and flossing habits, though.
Gum disease occurs when plaque lingers along the gum lines of your teeth too long. The bacteria in the plaque starts eating away at the gums just like it does with teeth. On teeth, this is called a cavity. On the gums, it is called gum disease.
If you floss daily, you will remove the plaque and bacteria in these areas, and this will reduce your chances of getting gum disease. If you fail to floss and end up with gum disease, you may need to go through dental procedures to treat it and remove it. These procedures can be painful and costly.

I have always brushed and flossed my teeth daily, but I still had the occasional cavity when I visited the dentist for a check-up. He told me it was normal to have a cavity on occasion and that I shouldn't let it stress me out too much. Well, I am not one to just accept any problem I am having, so I started looking into how to improve my oral hygiene even more. I had always thought mouthwash was just to improve your breath, but I found some that said they helped keep cavities away. I started using one every day before bed. I haven't had a cavity in two years now, and I think the mouth rinse is the reason! I created this blog to remind other people that even if they brush and floss regularly, they can always find ways to take even better care of their teeth.
