Don't Let These 3 Items Ruin Your Smile

Dentist Blog

People tend to eat their favorite foods and drink their favorite beverages without ever thinking twice about what they are doing to their teeth. Before you know it, you look in the mirror and see a yellow smile shining back at you. While no one plans on this happening, it can happen just by enjoying the things you do already. To help you understand what food and drink items are the worst ones for your teeth, let's explore these top staining agents below.

Darker sodas, especially diet ones, are extremely harmful because of their staining color. Depending on the temperature of the soda, it can cause your teeth to contract, making them more prone to staining. Soda contains phosphoric and citric acids that will eat away at the enamel on your teeth. Don't forget about all of the sugar contained in pop. It's no wonder why your teeth will end up decaying from drinking this flavorful drink. If you can't seem to stop drinking pop, consider drinking it with a straw to cut back on how much of it comes in contact with your teeth.

Red Wine

At one point in time or another, you have probably heard about the health properties contained in wine. However, red wine can leave your teeth dirty in no time. Just check your smile after drinking a glass of red wine with your dinner. Many believe that it does contain anti-inflammatory properties, thus helping to reduce your chance of gum disease. Another option is to go with a white wine or drink some water after consuming the red wine.

It only makes sense to reason that if one of those tasty popsicles leaves you with purple or red lips, it is going to end up staining your teeth as well. Opt for a lemon ice or sugarless gum to quench the sweet tooth. Chewing on gum can actually help to remove the bacteria in your mouth and whiten your teeth with the production of saliva. When the bacteria can't sit on your teeth, they cannot cause your teeth to turn color.

With so many different food and drink items out there that can stain your teeth, you need to turn to something that can help. By getting your teeth whitened, you can work to get rid of the staining that has caused them to look dingy and dirty, even when they aren't. Remember, you have to make smart decisions afterward too. Otherwise, you will be right back where you started. If you have specific questions about teeth whitening, contact a dentist like Daniel Savini DDS.

Mouth Rinses Are Not Just for Bad Breath

I have always brushed and flossed my teeth daily, but I still had the occasional cavity when I visited the dentist for a check-up. He told me it was normal to have a cavity on occasion and that I shouldn't let it stress me out too much. Well, I am not one to just accept any problem I am having, so I started looking into how to improve my oral hygiene even more. I had always thought mouthwash was just to improve your breath, but I found some that said they helped keep cavities away. I started using one every day before bed. I haven't had a cavity in two years now, and I think the mouth rinse is the reason! I created this blog to remind other people that even if they brush and floss regularly, they can always find ways to take even better care of their teeth.
